THE
GIRL WHO CRIED MARTIAN
by Charlie Mount
A Short
Play for Child Actors
Many Roles for Boys and Girls
Comedy
The
Girl Who Cried Martian is a thirty minute play constructed
to offer a great many interesting parts and imaginative performance
opportunities for up to two dozen kids (3rd-6th grade). The style
is broadly comedic, with lots of jokes and prat falls and silliness.
The device of a Narrator allows the bulk of the exposition
to be placed in the hands of a well spoken child (or adult) who
can read directly from the script, freeing the other actors from
laborious memorization, and allowing them to concentrate on the
play aspects of theatre.
The
Story: Jealous of her dancing skills, Queen Flotilla banishes young
Mary Twirl to a mountaintop to watch for Martians. Lonely for people
to watch her cool new dance moves, Mary constantly cries "Martian!"
to get an audience. One day the Martians actually do come, and,
thinking it's another prank, the Peasants don't come to the rescue.
The Martians take over the kingdom, and it's up to Mary to save
the day. She quickly arranges the Martians into a group of back-up
dancers, frees the kingdom, and becomes a world famous pop star.
Produced
at Wonderland School, Los Angeles. |
